Take a peek into the homes and personal collections of our UK team with the second part of the My Affordable Art Fair series. Read on to hear about the boundary-pushing sculpture that caught our eye, the joy of discovering an artist and watching them grow, and why you should always, always buy for love!
I’ve been incredibly lucky to have worked with a number of artists over the past eight years and getting to know Nam Tran – the artist behind the Ego Man series we showcased at Hampstead in 2018 – has definitely been one of the highlights. Nam is a skilled ceramicist who loves to push the boundaries of the medium and his contemporary style caught my eye immediately.
Our Ego Man may be small in stature (around 20cm), but he is mighty in meaning as it is the first piece of sculpture we bought and, to date, the only piece we own. Although you can catch a glimpse of some wonderfully vibrant screen prints by Frea Buckler in the background of this shot, our Ego Man’s unique glaze and playful reference to childhood means his is an upbeat addition to our predominantly monotone collection of works, and it is truly brilliant to own a piece by an artist whose practice we got to know and love over time. Thanks to Nam, we’re now on the hunt for more ceramic work to expand our small but mighty sculpture collection soon!
I first discovered Bonnie and Clyde when I joined the Affordable Art Fair in 2015 and couldn’t resist making the purchase a year later with Liberty Gallery at the Battersea Autumn fair.
I absolutely love the combination of monochrome and highly saturated areas of colour, collaged with photography, elements of distressed paper and magazine cuttings, to represent the beautiful, messy, vibrant and chaotic nature of the LA landscape. My eyes are always drawn to the little pink campervan in the background of the piece which displays the title of the work: ‘Yes We Can Live In Peace’ (header image).
I love to travel and seem to be attracted to artworks that feature swimming pools or beaches as they remind me of being in hotter climates! I have purchased some great print work by Martin Grover, Sam Gare & Clare Halifax so this is the perfect addition to my collection and takes pride of place in my living room.
After falling in love when I first saw Suzanne Moxhay’s fine art photography at Saatchi Gallery as a young art student 7 years ago, I’m incredibly excited to say that now I’ve finally been able to purchase one of her delightfully dark limited edition prints to begin my very own art collection!
Thanks to the wonderful Jamm Gallery, I can pay in instalments to own the artist proof of Suzanne Moxhay’s edition ‘Aviary’, something I didn’t think would be possible. Her art continued to catch my eye on Jamm’s stand when working across many of the Affordable Art Fairs and recently seeing her piece in the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition confirmed I’d made the right choice, but I won’t buy for investment, I’ll continue to buy for love and so should you!
