To celebrate World Oceans Day this week, we’ve curated a selection of artists that’ll get you inspired about our oceans.
It’s World Oceans Day this week; a day to rally together in finding ways to protect our oceans.
Through art we are reminded of the impact the ocean has on our lives and of its beauty and majesty. Here are six artists that we think capture the big blue in all its glory.
Farida is passionate about exploring the world around her in watercolour, and we really love these moody, atmospheric seascapes that appear to take a snapshot that encapsulates the fiercer side of the ocean. Through her art, Farida engages with the cultural expectations and ideological restrictions that
confront her as a woman, as an artist and as an immigrant. It’s interesting to witness how this transfers into her portrayals of our natural landscape.
Patrick Lajoie is a photographer who uses his camera as a tool for exploration and evoking nostalgia. These vibrant photographs reflect the joy the ocean can bring us. Providing times to make memories and spend time together.

Leila Godden is a contemporary painter who specialises in seascapes. Having been brought up by the coast, the ocean holds a deep resonance for Godden. Often capturing the waters dramatic, changing temperament with a sense of reverence, her work reminds us of the majesty of the ocean.
Tim Southall is a printmaker who creates brilliant monotype prints of coastal landscapes. These vibrant, one of a kind works reflect the transient nature of the ocean and it’s ever changing character.
Tim Southall, ‘First Light’, monotype print, 20cm x 30cm, Arc Fine Arts
Christophe Jacrot‘s photography reminds us of the power of the ocean. Jacrot has penchant for capturing bad weather; when this interest is combined with the ocean, we are reminded of the vast strength the water can hold and the respect it can command. Jacrot’s evocative and dramatic photos make you stop in awe for this literal force of nature.
Escudero’s work explores patterns and imperfections in nature, from Pyrenees mountain ranges to ocean waves. His colour palettes perfectly match the minimalist style of his etchings, which always have our hearts. They capture the beauty and power of the ocean with technical delicacy.
