We’re bringing you a mix of talented creatives to our Young Talent exhibition at our upcoming fair in Melbourne - the perfect emerging artists to add to your collection!
Victoria has one of the most exciting art scenes in Australia and has produced some of the finest artists we know today. Riding on the extraordinary success of our 2019 Melbourne Young Talent exhibition, (and our Young Talent exhibitions across the globe!), we continue to present to you some of the freshest contemporary art the state has to offer. Having total creative freedom and exploration, we love the excitement of these innovative perspectives and interpretations!
As we return to Melbourne, 1 – 4 September, at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, we’re bringing a mix of talented creatives to our Young Talent exhibition. We’ve carefully selected four new artists, plus we will be revisiting the works of Alice Oehr who exhibited with us in 2019. Each bring their own unique artistic practice and impressive resume, and together we think they’re the perfect emerging artists to add to your collection.
Liam O’Neil’s colourful style brings to life every portrait he paints. Blue and purple are his favourite colours as they make him happy so look out for these colours in his work! As a passionate Autism Ambassador, Liam paints to allow us into his unique perspective of his world. With the encouragement of his mum Ailsa, Liam has been able to discover and nurture his artistic talent over the years. He has since utilised his skills to bring awareness and donate funds from his artwork sales to significant charities and events including Headspace and Autism Walk Geelong.
In his recent series of dog paintings, Liam has given each pooch a unique portrait with its own setting and style. He highlights some of the dog’s individual personality and characteristics, so much so that we want to lean into the works and give the dogs a pat!
Mark Chu is a multidisciplinary artist who exhibits internationally, with an impressive following and resume to date. Mark’s breadth is core to his practice, having worked as a restaurant reviewer for The Good Food Guide, as a passionate creative writer and even recording as a piano soloist with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. He makes ongoing contributions to research in cognitive science and his art has been collected by Stanford University and the Santa Fe Institute.
Having graduated with a Master of Fine Arts at Columbia University, Mark applies his scientific understanding and creative talents to his paintings. He transforms his portraits into the extraordinary by employing heightened colour, form, and texture. This enhances the viewer’s psychological experience and suddenly portraits of strangers become familiar as we connect within the universal experience of the human condition.
Miranda Smith is a Hong Kong and Melbourne based light artist working across installation, digital print, and painting. Miranda uses perceptual fallacies to create dynamic and experimental art encounters for her viewers. aiming to involve them in questioning their own experience of her work. She made her 2020 debut with her solo exhibition, Lucent Nebulous with Gallery Jeeum in Hong Kong, before returning to Melbourne with a public light installation in the arts district in 2021.
At Affordable Art Fair Melbourne, Miranda will be unveiling a new series of her experimental photographic prints. She paints with light and captures it with a camera, to show us what our naked eye could not see alone. Keep an eye out at the fair to see these artworks for yourself!
A lover of all things colourful, patterned and happy, Tegan Iversen developed her practice through her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Art) in Drawing from the Victorian College of the Arts. Since then, she’s been part of group shows around Australia and in 2019 she undertook a residency at Studio Kura in Fukuoka, Japan where she had solo exhibitions there and in Tokyo. Now back in Melbourne in her Essendon studio, Tegan continues to be inspired by the world around her as she creates using a variety of media including painting, drawing and digital.
In Tegan’s art you’ll find a whole lot of bright colour, energy and positive vibes. Drawing on everyday life, you may find a smiling strawberry, kittens in a pram, donuts with sprinkles and rainbows galore. An exciting mural is planned for Affordable Art Fair Melbourne, come along to the fair and let Tegan’s creation fill you with joy!
Alice Oehr returns with her iconic and punchy graphic creations that teeter between the creative and commercial. Whatever side of the line – this distinctive and colourful style is sure to draw you in. You’ll no doubt recall her last exhibition of larger-than-life fruit and legumes. This year stay tuned for a delicious serving of layered cake! Her limited edition works bring to life her love of food, pattern, collage, and drawing. Many of her works having made their way onto textiles, homeware goods, magazines, books and even once as a series of 6ft Ancient Egyptian statues for a marquee at the Spring Racing Carnival!
