We at the Affordable Art Fair are so excited to introduce the Art Current Gallery! We chatted with co-founder Marcella Tong about the different artists they represent, and what they look forward to the most at the Affordable Art Fair. Read on to find out more!
Can you briefly introduce the Art Current Gallery?
Art Current brings your attention to experience the most mind-stimulating and heart-warming art of the current moment. We offer a curated range of art projects and artist products. Our aim is to engage and support current and emerging artists to make a positive impact on individuals and society as a whole.
How do you feel about returning to an art fair?
Awesome! As there has been more than a year that all the international art fairs and events have been stopped in HK because of Covid 19, we are feeling excited and looking forward to meeting more new faces!
What do you like the most about art fairs?
People! We love to meet different new faces including collectors, other galleries and artists…etc
Can you share with us the curatorial angle/direction of Art Current Gallery’s next step?
We hope to bring more Hong Kong local artists internationally through overseas art fairs. We hope people can understand more about HK’s artists and their works.
How do you select an artist? Do you have any principles or requirements for each artist?
I’m more focused on the story or message that the artist is presenting! The story behind the artwork makes the artwork not only an art piece, it is a witness of life. Art/ creative should not have any rules, but there is one requirement for each artist, which is to stay tuned and create in the current.
What is the uniqueness you see from William Tong’s artworks?
The love for nature and longing for freedom helped him develop his “Temphouse” series and “Amazing Fish-Fusion” series. Although William is a fishing lover, the desire to protect the ocean life has made him decide to stop fishing. He successfully represents how ocean life is affected by environmental pollution through his artworks.
Any other artists you would like to highlight at this year’s Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong?
Rainbo and Ar Yip.
Rainbo who was born in Wunan, China and now living in Hong Kong. She is an oil painter, sculptor, graphic artist, and graffitist, she excells in character design and story writing.
Ar Yip likes using a 0.3 ink pen for illustrations. His works often showcase usages of detailed and yet imaginative line drawings. He will have a new series of Artworks in the coming fair, we are all looking forward to it.
What advice would you give to a visitor who wants to start collecting art?
The golden rule is balancing your instincts with your budget and space.
Thank you so much to Art Current Gallery for your time! Art Current Gallery is not just a gallery, but an art collective, making art and education their key focus concept alongside their exhibition, which we at the Affordable Art Fair fully support.
