We’re delighted to introduce our five new rising stars for Young Talent New South Wales 2022. Bringing a breadth of diverse and distinctive works, this exhibition is not to be missed.
Curious at the subtle interactions people have with the world around them, Sydney-based artist Cat Yenn‘s hand-painted artworks are a graphic and abstract representation of the less tangible things in life. Structured whimsy frames her work as she explores ideas of connection by giving flat shapes depth, static elements movement and elastic ideas precision.
Cat graduated in Design from UNSW College of Fine Arts and now works in a diverse range of mediums including jewellery, eyewear, marketing, and digital design. In 2020, she began her independent art practice.
At Affordable Art Fair Sydney, Cat will be exhibiting a series of playful minimalist paintings on artboard. We look forward to experiencing her structured whimsy in person for ourselves!
Daniel Bodey‘s intimate paintings capture everyday transient moments, blurring the perception between subject and environment through textured and highly structured brushwork. Using familiar imagery in an abstracted way, we almost feel as though we are on a walk in the park in a fantastical dream. Daniel’s paintings are created through iPhone images taken during his travels in the city and transformed through his distinctive brushwork style through layering of fresh paint with dried paint.
Having only graduated from National Art School, Sydney in 2020, Daniel was a recipient of the Troy Quinliven Exhibition Award that very year. We look forward to leaning in to spot all of the complex textures and daily narratives hidden within his paintings this June.
A delightfully eclectic portrayal of celebration and community, Maya Barnstone draws inspiration from her upbringing in America and her summers in Greece where as a child as she painted with her yiayia Elli. Her paintings come from her imagination, often exploring the complexities and joy of social events and gatherings. Something we appreciate just that bit more now.
We can’t wait to see the National Art School 2019 graduate’s vibrant works for ourselves!
Giorgia McRae is an emerging multi-disciplinary, abstract artist. Since graduating from National Art School in 2020, Giorgia has already exhibited at renowned Australian galleries.
She explores emotional prowess and the idea of mundanity through strong lines and blocks of saturated colour. With overt nods to Cubist and Modernist influence, Giorgia’s work travels between two and three dimensional forms with her motifs found on painted canvas and sculpted steel.
At just 29 years old, we look forward to seeing what Giorgia does next in her artistic journey.
Gabrielle Penfold is a contemporary artist who works across different mediums, favouring oil paint and clay. Delighting in the simplicity of everyday objects, her still life paintings capture quirky presentations of seafood and the dinner table. Painting a familiar everyday narrative with a slice of a dream-like haze marking her signature style.
Graduating from University of New South Wales COFA in 2016, Gabrielle has already made quite the name for herself in Australia and is not to be missed at Affordable Art Fair Sydney.
With such diverse artwork styles and immense talent on show at our Young Talent New South Wales showcase don’t forget to snap up a ticket to the Sydney fair now for advanced prices, and prepare to be wow-ed!
