DIRECTOR’S PICKS

Back in April, our Fair Director, Cori Teague, worked her magic curating stunning art for an open house with our partner, Perry Homes. Now, we’re breaking down how she did it!

THE OFFICE

I started with the geometric pieces by B Shawn Cox for the office and adjacent entry way. From afar, these beautiful abstract pieces leaves the viewer curious as to what lies behind the acrylic shields. Get up close and the answer is revealed… it’s money!

These pieces are perfect for an office space for multiple reasons. Firstly, what better motivator during the day than to look at artwork made from real money? Secondly, it’s important to have work in your home office that isn’t going to distract you, which is why abstracts are perfect in this location! 

The wall parallel to the entrance of the home is one of the ‘first impressions’ your guests will see as they enter. This is a great time to find a piece(s) that will grab the attention of your guests, but wont overwhelm them. Don’t let this artwork overwhelm and take away from the rest of the home (that’s for later!)

THE DINING ROOM

If you are reading this, then you know that Perry Homes does it the Texas way…beautiful open spaces and large walls where each room exudes the luxury living experience. Artwork selection actually has similar angles to think about when purchasing. 

Unlike the office, this is a space where you should have your ‘wow factor’ artwork. Specific to this home, the dinning room is featured openly in the center of the space and has a large blank ‘canvas’ wall to work with. Remember that you and your guests are going to see this artwork from every vantage point. Let’s make this a juicy piece to get the conversations flowing during your countless dinner parties. 

DON’T RULE OUT SCULPTURES

Sculpture is often the last kid picked for the team, but these can be some of the most important players when shaping a space.

The best thing about sculpture is that they get you to think freely outside the box. Paintings can only go so far in two dimensions, whilst the many viewing points and angles of sculpture offers the ability to evoke a different association from the piece. An array of emotions can come from one work as you walk around it, resulting in a feeling of completeness only once considering it from all angles. Sounds like life, right? 

MAKE A SPLASH IN THE BATHROOM

Take advantage of the block colors and clean lines a bathroom provides by adding a pop of bright color or a graphic print.  We all spend a lot of time in the bathroom, why not make it an extra special room by giving it the gift of art? 

HANG ARTWORK THAT YOU LOVE

Remember that your home is an extension of you, have fun with it and fill it with pieces you love. These pieces are a visual representation of who you are, and tell your story.
