As soon as I saw this work, I knew I wanted to have it on my wall. This is from E. Brady Robinson’s Sk8r GRLS series, shot within the last two years, featuring female-identifying roller skaters in Baltimore. This image is funk, it’s disco, it’s fun, it’s escape, and that’s just what we all need after the pandemic.
New Jersey-based artist Russ Rubin paints fantasy landscapes on wood in vintage frames. I love the idea of creating something so new and imaginative from something old and discarded.
I I love the simplicity of this work by LA-based artist Courtney Herron. I am always drawn to portraits in which the viewer is confronted by the subject’s gaze, but the soft lines and muted palette of this painting balance that directness and make it feel approachable.
I’ll be honest, I love a little drama! I’m drawn to the cinematic nature of this work by Alexa Esposito. It’s dark and dangerous, but seductive at the same time. There’s so much tension in this painting and I find myself creating an entire narrative in my head for the subjects.
The fine lines of these natural forms are so delicate and airy, but when I think about Emilie Coquil’s tactile process of printing lithography on porcelain, the work feels solid and grounded as well. Overall, this is a balanced and calming piece that I could live with in any space.
I am fascinated by the surrealist worlds created by Ukrainian-born artist Yelena Lezhen. They are dreamscapes, mythologies, and fables. Her works require close examination and with each viewing, new details reveal themselves.
I’m a big fan of textile art and I particularly like the colors that Mariana Tripoli uses in this work because they feel like summer. The pieces overall is harmonious and lyrical in its balance and simplicity.
I’ve recently hopped on the horoscope bandwagon, so I’ve been into images of the stars and the moon, but as a Floridian, I always come back to the sea. Lynn Savarese’s photographs often depict water and I love that at the end of the day, this celestial image is just a red ball enjoying itself in the pool.
This Emily Carriere work is very glam and a little moody in its contradictions. It’s reflective and bright, yet abstract and oddly organic. It channels my inner rock-star energy and I like to pull that out every now and then.
Juan Abuela’s work is all about balance and counterbalance and this piece is a great example of that. You have two materials- wood, which is of nature, and concrete, which is man-made- working in tandem to create this beautiful form. I also love these colors, which give the work a warm energy.
