Vanessa Seis, Fair Director for Affordable Art Fair NYC, presents her selection of nature and spring themed top picks from The Affordable Online Art Fair (open until 3 May, affordableartfair.com).
Born and raised in the German countryside, Vanessa moved to New York City ten years ago. Having worked for the Affordable Art Fair for nine of these years, Vanessa has developed a thoughtful collection of contemporary and emerging artists’ work to fit into the aesthetic of her beach side bungalow. When not curating art and crafting our NYC fairs, Vanessa can be found surfing and working on her local community farm. Perhaps it’s Vanessa’s en plein lifestyle that has inspired her nature-filled curation of works from The Affordable Online Art Fair (open until 3 May).
“Coming out of a New York winter that felt particularly long without the usual escape through travel, I found myself drawn to spring colors and the motif of nature.
From the botanicals in Shinko Araki’s and Hannah Wade’s work, to the green hues and fluid lines in Tori Swanson’s ‘The Unspoken Truth’, to Nathania Nangala Granites’ ‘Warlukurlangu Jukurrpa (Fire Country Dreaming)’, with its beautiful earth tones and characteristic dots, circles and snakelike lines. These works – to me – feel deeply energizing, inspiring, yet grounding.
Jerry Weber’s ‘UNO’ and David Winston’s ‘Moonwalk’ are a sweet taste of what is yet to come: a summer spent by and on the water, celebrating sunsets, just immersing oneself in the landscape. I would love to bring these works into my home to celebrate the artists and those feelings forever.” Vanessa Seis
