COLLECTORS TALK
Join us as well for our Collectors Talk this year on Sunday 14 April 2024 at 1pm at the bar.
Dr. Anna Schwan and Kolja Reichert, former art critic of FAZ, program curator at Bundeskunsthalle and now Chief Curator at Kunstsammlung NRW, will be talking about his new book “Kann ich das auch?”, which aims to explain art in a very simple way. In his book he answered 50 questions that one could ask about art even without the knowledge of an expert.
EMERGING ARTISTS
Initiated in 2012 by Fair Director Oliver Lähndorf, the annual Emerging Artists exhibition at Affordable Art Fair has given a curated platform to new talents who haven’t been represented by a gallery at the time.
Looking back at the last 12 years of this exhibition series at the Fair in Hamburg, the visibility generated by the Emerging Artist exhibitions has been integral in supporting and pushing artist’s careers within the difficult starting conditions of the art world.
The first edition of the Emerging Artists exhibition in Berlin addresses the topic “Spannungsverhältnisse” and will be curated by Fair Manager Hannah Weber-Heidenfels, showing 4 different artistic positions of artists which have an artistic focus in Berlin.
Participating artists this year are Jana Schumacher, Jonas Büßecker, Nina Kuttler and Viktor Petrov.
LATE VIEW
No fair would be complete without festivities! On Friday 12 April we will be open until 10pm with our Late View. Come along to enjoy a glass of wine, listen to the beats of DJ Levente and relax while browsing this year’s exhibition. This is the best time to visit the fair if you want to avoid prams and the weekend rush.
ENTRANCE INSTALLATION
Berlin-based artist Tomislav Topic has created a stylistically unique and unmistakable body of work throughout his career. He is known for his colourful, site-specific art installations, in which he adeptly reduces his work to focus in colour and form, which he has realized in public spaces worldwide: from ruins of Greek architecture to public squares and urban hotspots in megacities in Asia.
His fundamental focus on colour and form allows him to create universally understandable installations, which enable the viewer to experience art in a true and direct way. Wether painting or installation, his art has the ability to resonate world-wide as an internationally valid form of expression and also to unite people of different cultures in art.
For the first Affordable Art Fair Berlin and in collaboration with Berlin-based artnow gallery, Tomislav has been invited to create a striking installation which will hang from the ceiling at the fair’s entrance.
