About Bob Marshall

About the artwork

A combination of two images - the main image is a kitchen table and chair with a fruit bowl and stony repeated background adds texture and age. This is a hand-produced cyanotype print. Each is hand-produced, making each print unique. Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print. Engineers used the process well into the 20th century as a simple and low-cost process to produce copies of drawings, referred to as blueprints. The cyanotype process was invented by John Herschel in the 1830s and uses only iron compounds (Bob uses an improved modern recipe invented by Dr Mike Ware made from Iron Ammonium Oxalate and Potassium Ferricyanide). Cyanotype prints are permanent and should last a lifetime or more.
