About Susie Nathanson

About the artwork

Susie Nathanson grew up surrounded by her father’s colourful collection of vintage toys, which are still proudly displayed on shelves, dotted around her parents’ home from which she now draws her inspiration. The scratched and weathered patina that conveys the essence of a much loved and played with object is what Susie is particularly drawn to. As such, she has painted each toy with its own unique array of flecks and textural personality. Through this process she has come to appreciate these toys as objects of sculptural, social historic interest and aesthetic beauty that seem to evoke, in adults and children alike, a sense of joy and emotional nostalgia.
