The title of this work relates to Tutunendo in Colombia. This is typical of the artist's interest in far away places, particularly those evoking the sublime beauty or powerful forces of nature.
Philippe Van Gele was born in Ghent, Belgium, in 1979 and still lives and works in the area. Despite his strong connection to his home, his work evokes ideas of wanderlust and exploration of far away places. Van Gele paints abstract landscapes which inspire an emotional response in the viewer, his work is expressive and powerful. His technique involves using mostly acrylic paint and focuses on textural exploration; the paint is worked on at length, dripped or scratched to produce a hazy and mysterious effect.
