About Markus Rock

About the artwork

Markus Rock's current 12-part work "Vanitas" deals with transience and plays with classical-seeming still lifes, which are transferred from Renaissance and Baroque painting into contemporary photography. Depending on the picture, he creates this in very different grades, creating a range from very classical-looking compositions to very modern motifs, which are used in the painting of frequently used vanitas attributes. The blending of classic vanitas symbols with modern, industrially manufactured objects paves the way for this work and at the same time touches on our understanding of the values that question the use of these symbols. This artwork is made in A2 (42cm x 59.4cm) as fine-art prints (pigment prints) on cotton paper (Koh I Noor paper by Römerturm). If desired, the pictures are framed in black wooden frames with gray passe-partout (63cm x 83cm) under museum glass, available.
