About Marc Quinn

About the artwork

A Map of Where You Can't See the Stars is a continuation of Marc Quinn's Iris series of prints, which we first worked with the artist to produce in 2012. Quinn's hyper-realistic portrayals of the human eye explore what the artist believes is the 'doorway to our world,' revealing what makes each individual unique. A Map of Where You Can't See the Stars is a screenprinted image of an iris, which is overlaid by a map in diamond dust. The map reveals continents surrounding the Atlantic Ocean, including the Americas, Europe and Africa. Through this image, Quinn is commenting on our increasing globalisation, whereby the white areas in the print reveal the lights of densely populated cities.
