About Luke M Walker

About the artwork

Part of a new series of works exploring the painting processes. They attempt to record the activity of the painter in the studio in response to a particular set of experiences from out in the Landscape, in this case, a visit to the Tate Modern extension in 2016 where the building has been sheathed in a delicate lattice of scaffolding for cladding in a facade of fretted brickwork. The paint is applied in a series of processes, some controlled and others left to chance. The material flow of the paint following the paths of least resistance, which might be residues of paint, an underlying grid or even just the weave of the canvas. Gravity and the viscosity of the paint all have an equal bearing on the outcome. The overlying grids attempt to emphasise the planar geometry of this complex building and map the construction of both the structure and the painting itself.
