From Blockbuster FX to Fine Arts, Paul Trefry will be returning to Randwick with Traffic Jam Galleries after studying here at the local TAFE in the 1980s. Masterfully manipulating silicone and rubber, Paul has worked with the likes of Ridley Scott, Angelina Jolie, Russel Crowe, James Cameron and Baz Luhrmann on feature films. His background creating models, props, and animatronics has built a foundation for incredible attention to detail resulting in a series of sculptures that are eerily lifelike and charged with social commentary. Paul’s artworks are a must-see, their depth and scale are best appreciated in person.
A stellar lineup of talent will give visitors the chance to peer behind the curtain at their artistic practice. Our Artists in Action will demonstrate diverse techniques and disclose inspirations in the performative process of live painting. This year join Matilda Michell (Project Gallery 90), Evan Shipard (Project Gallery 90), David Hinchliffe (Wentworth Galleries), Sally Ryan (Hamley Studio of Fine Arts), Ben Ryan (Hamley Studio of Fine Arts), and Sandra Brand (Hamley Studio of Fine Arts) as they reveal their methodologies. Artists from Boomali will also create fresh work over the weekend for visitors to enjoy.
Don’t worry – if you fall in love with any of our Artists in Action’s artworks you can head over to their gallery stand to purchase one for yourself.
Building on the Artist in Action concept, new to the fair will be a pop-up oil painters studio, where empty canvases will be turned into moody scenes throughout the four days of the fair. Take a moment to appreciate beauty in real-time and immerse yourself in the traditon of fine painting.
