Hello! Firstly, to introduce myself, my name is Bernice Glimberg, Fair Director for Affordable Art Fair Stockholm (11 –14 October). I’m so excited about the upcoming fair, we have lined up a huge number of exciting galleries, workshops, delicious food, evening events and more –all for you to enjoy at your leisure. Here are my top tips on the not-to-be-missed features, and I look forward to seeing you at the fair!
This year’s Art After Work is going to be bigger and better than ever! Together with Campo Viejo we are welcoming world-renowned street artists Okuda and 3TTMAN to the fair. Come down and enjoy a glass of something bubbly while watching Okuda and 3ttman create and paint live, bringing a wall within the fair to life. After enjoying the show, you will then have time to explore the fair, grab something to eat and browse all the art on display.
Each year, we pride ourselves on bringing fresh new art to the fair, and one of the ways we do this is through our Recent Graduates exhibition. This year we have partnered with two new curators, Ellen K Gedda and Robin Borg, who have travelled the length and breadth of Sweden in search of new and promising artists! Don’t miss this feature at the fair.
Feeling inspired by all of the artwork at the fair? Why not try your hand at making your own lithograph. This year our workshop partneris Grafiska sällskapet who will teach you all about creative printing process of lithography and of course, you’ll be able to take your own creation home with you! Whether you are looking for a painting, print, sculpture or photograph the fair has something for you. To make it easy for you to navigate and find the perfect piece to suit your budget, we have clearly marked artworks that are priced under 10.000 SEK with pink stickers. Keep your eyes open for these wallet-friendly treasures and take home a bargain!
Our charity partner, Non-Violence Art Project, will bring their limited edition“knotted gun”sculptures to the fair. Originally created by Swedish artist Carl Fredrik Reuterswärdas a memorial tribute to John Lennon after he was shot and killed in New York City in December 1980. The Non-Violence Project Foundation is an educational non-profit organisation and by purchasing one of their limited-edition sculptures you will not only be taking home an iconic sculpture, you will also be championing peace and social change.
For this year’s fair, we have a smorgasbord of 58 galleries, hailing from Sweden and beyond! Of these, 15 are completely new, while our family of returning galleries, who are travelling from as far as Thailand and Korea, as well as from all corners of Sweden, promise plenty of new artists and artwork in their exhibitions. I am particularly excited about seeing Andrea Torres represented by Galeria Miquel Alzueta. Andrea’s work explores dreams, reality and fiction, and I just love the surreal feel to his photography.
To put the finishing touch to your artwork don’t forget to visit our framing partner – Fotorama – who not only can give you expert advice on how to best display your new piece, they can also frame it for you on the spot!
We are delighted to be launching our platform project, Hidden Talents, at this year’s fair. Through our platform project we hope to spread the word about their amazing work and introduce them to all our fantastic visitors and galleries!
