The gratitude we developed for our digs during lockdown looks to continue into 2022, as we approach our spaces with more consideration and creativity. With this is mind, the trend of nesting at home with cosy textiles will be repackaged for spring. Materials may be lighter, and more sustainability-conscious, but they have lost none of their textuality.
Did you think brown interiors were relegated to the 1970s? Think again – when done right, brown tones can be luxurious, evoking strength and resilience. In the system of Feng Shui, brown represents either wood, if it’s dark and rich, or earth if it’s light – but all tones connect us to the natural world. From chocolate browns to burnt umber, brown can elevate your interiors whilst grounding your home with earthy energy!

For a more contemporary feel, try Royal Blue accents to compliment deep shades. Such as the boiler suit the figure is wearing in Chris Grisley’s ‘Dogging on the Estate’. A lighter blue can work just as well, providing a fresh and powerful ambience to any room, as seen in Laura Middleton’s ‘Moon Through the Trees and Through The Window’.
Sensory and tactile surfaces are a big feature for the home in 2022. Sculptural and curved furniture is soon to be featuring all over Instagram with the allure of elegant and soft shapes growing. Alongside organic shapes, expect stone, terracotta and marble surfaces. For textiles, keep an eye out for jute, mohair and abaca.

Take Caroline Banks’ ‘Black and White Gesso’, from Caiger Art. The gesso on the exposed canvas feels elemental, the swirl of paint like the crest of a wave. Circular components feel natural and protective such as in Joe Morris’s, ‘Emergence‘. The concentric rings in the painting emulate the rings of a tree trunk and draw our attention to the rhythms of the natural world. Hang this piece in the kitchen, (often the busiest room in the house) to remind yourself to slow down and enjoy the small moments. Aaaand relax.
As we continue to spend more time outdoors in the coming months, our interior and exterior spaces are expected to harmonise. Bring the outside in and elevate your exterior with sophisticated furniture and garden sculptures. After being confined to our homes intermittently over the past few years, we learnt to make the most of our space and our appreciation for the natural world reached an all-time high.
Get the look with art: Your garden is a perfect space for sculpture! Try adding statement pieces, like Emmanuel Okoro’s resin sculpture, ‘Tired Feet’. Not just the reserve of country estates, sculptures can add gravitas to any garden. But, if your outside space is limited (or non-existent), why not emulate the outside within? Emily Finch’s ‘Looking Up Green Trees To Hope‘ does what the name suggests – recreating the feeling of looking up amongst the blossom. A classic landscape can always be relied upon to recreate the air of the great outdoors, whilst Ben Russell’s stunning ‘Three Camel Cacti’ offers an un-killable upgrade for the houseplant-obsessed.
Another trend promptly populating Pinterest boards right now is all things bold and bright. Like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, this trend reflects the feeling of emerging from greyscale to technicolour, a sensation felt by many this spring. Bold colours are set to appear in unexpected places – from neon glassware,to glazed exterior tiles and coloured concrete (in bathrooms and kitchens). Retro patterns are having a moment, with classic checks given a colour overhaul. Adding bold colour is a sure-fire way to inject personality into your hone, more than that however, bright colours are scientifically proven to improve our moods. Add ‘bold’ to your interiors to-do list to enhance your 2022 good vibes!

A white wall offers you the freedom to direct your room renovation in whichever way you please. If you’re looking to introduce pattern subtly into your home, look towards ‘Mother’ by Jess Quinn. There are various patterns within the painting, in the figure’s vest, overcoat and the ornamental Cheese plant. Consider complimentary colours when pairing your artworks.
If you’re looking to buy a piece to match your walls, take a look at the colour wheel before shopping to get a sense for what will work harmoniously within your home. For example, ‘Mother’ would work best against a colour from the Red-Violet section of the colour spectrum, such as a ‘Pomegranate’ or ‘Raspberry’ pink.
For all the fresh new trends for 2022 there is no replacing the importance of filling your home with beautiful things that are completely and uniquely ‘you’. Whether that’s an artwork which brings the ‘wow factor’ into your abode, or a quirky piece that resonates with you, if it makes you smile, we’re here for it!
Get the look with art: Avant garde artworks are great for making a statement, but they can be trickier to style effortlessly. Choose to either make your piece the star of the room – such as with Lexi Laine’s stunning underwater photograph Cardumen (pictured below). Or adopt a maximalist approach, combining pieces like Daniela Fortuna’s Hera Fluo Heart (pictured below) with Cherie Harte’s brilliant, ‘Super Love’.
Fancy yourself as a collector of the weird and wonderful? A gallery wall (or shelf for ceramics) can be an impactful way to showcase your treasures. Alternatively, take inspiration from the most famous of collecting families, the Medici, and reserve your dearest artworks for the most intimate parts of the home, such as the bedroom!
