Brussels is a city famed for being a meeting place of different cultures from all across the world and we’re excited to celebrate this even more with a brand new ‘Spotlight’ series. Starting with our 2023 edition, each year we’ll dedicate a whole section of the fair to highlighting a country, technique or theme to visitors. This year, we’ve decided to champion the diverse, extraordinary art from one of our nearest, dearest neighbours. Introducing: Spotlight on Spain.
Spanish galleries have, for many years, been proud ambassadors for their country at Affordable Art Fair Brussels. You’ll be treated to a whole neighbourhood of Spanish galleries gathered together to share the work of their artists alongside one another.

Based in the region of Castile and León, Al Contar del Arte was founded by director Rodrigo Juarranz with the aim of promoting art by both established and emerging international artists from the gallery space in Aranda de Duero. Passionate about figurative and abstract styles alike, Al Contar del Arte will be presenting, among others, works by Beatrice Díaz Ceballos, Diego Benéitez and Jaimie Sicilia. Be sure to take a closer look at the figures hiding in Enrique González’ work – you might unexpectedly see someone you know from closer to home!
A long time favourite at Affordable Art Fair, Anquins Gallery was founded in 1973 in Reus, 100 km south of Barcelona. In the last 48 years, the gallery have presented a wide variety of contemporary artists, both national and international, and remain one of the most established galleries in their region. Gallery director, Pepa Quintero’s, curatorial talent for sharing simultaneously strong and sensitive works will be in full view at the entrance to the fair. She’ll be showcasing the stunning works by the likes of Tessa Riba, Jordi Sabat and Ramon Surinyac.
Since 1991, Carles Casals and his colleagues have been presenting the work of over 50 artists from their base in Blanes on the Costa Brava. True experts in their field, the team are known for their dynamic contemporary exhibition programme, but also their collection of works by titans of Spanish art history Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró and Antoni Tàpies.
This year, visitors to their stand will be invited to experience the textural abstract works of Fernando Daza, Jordi Alcaraz and Pama Alvariño, alongside Juan Perdiguero’s arresting, large scale ‘Doberman’ work.
Located two short blocks from the world-famous Prado Museum, OCCO Art Gallery is at the heart of cultural action in the country’s capital, Madrid. This is their first time joining us at Affordable Art Fair and we’re looking forward to getting lost in the spaces of bodies, lands and textures explored in the works of Pablo Gómez Prieto, José Marcías and Vivian Yan.
Galería de Arte María Aguilar was founded in Chiclana, Spain back in 1997. The gallery’s goal is the diffusion of Spanish Contemporary Art, with a particular focus on championing the talent of Andalusian painters. Sharing their personal expertise on the development of art in this region, as well as showcasing a variety of styles from artists such as Óscar Vázquez, Urréjola, José Naranjo, Fran Mora and sculptor Marta Sánchez Luengo, this stand is sure to be an oasis of dreamy landscapes.
Galeria de Arte Juca Claret opened its doors in 2006 with the goal of bringing a diverse range of contemporary art to the public in its hometown of Madrid. Central to their curation is technique and a sense of sincerity in artistic intention. Between the miniature watercolour works of Anna Aström, Juan Jose Vicente’s haunting landscapes and Pedro de Miquel’s sensual abstract paintings, we can’t wait to be immersed in their stand this year.
Affordable Art Fair Brussels will return from 8 – 12 February at the iconic Tour & Taxis venue. We’re so excited to kick-off our new ‘Spotlight’ section and champion these incredible Spanish galleries. We hope you’ve loved what you’ve seen here and are feeling suitably inspired to join us in getting closer to extraordinary art.
