Our Affordable Art Fair New York Spring Route Guides help you navigate the fair with your personal taste in mind to ensure you find all of your favorites.
The Conscientious Collector Route Guide is perfect for you if you’re concerned with the state of things to come.
Take this route through the fair if you are confident that your responsible choices now will create a more sustainable, inclusive, and equitable future. We’ve selected some artworks perfectly suited for a conscientious collector like yourself!
We’re kicking off the Conscientious Collector route through the fair with a stop by Al Contar del Arte (B7) where you’ll find the recognizable flair of Marcos Tamargo and his spray can sculptures. Considered one of the most exciting painters on the Spanish scene, they’re a must-see for anyone wanting to fill their collection with unusual, recycled materials and statement-making palettes.
Working out of Midcoast Maine, Kelly Moeykens is an Affordable Art Fair aficionado, and her work is always popular at our fair. Whilst her style is steadfast, there are always new elements to discover owing to her use of unique recycled papers to create these intricate compositions. Kelly is dedicated to raising awareness around our ecological and biodiversity crisis – a perfect choice for anyone who wants their art to do good.
Highly stylized and structured, Henry McAlpine’s landscapes demonstrate his deep love for, and intricate observation of, the natural world. They offer a modern twist on landscape painting, with a fresh feel that’ll surely speak to lovers of art and nature alike. Don’t miss a closer look at his work at Art Movement’s stand (C12) at the back of the venue.
A couple of stands along you’ll find Artêria, who amongst others will be presenting Zut (AKA Julie Touchette). These joyful works ooze optimism and are sure to draw in all conscientious collectors with their glossy surfaces, crazy characters, and pure emotionality.
Self-taught artist W. Tucker stumbled upon art when an old roommate left behind their supplies of paints and paper. Curiosity got the better of him and we, for one, are very glad for it. Now, you’re able to explore his deceptively “simple” style where inanimate objects and everyday scenarios collide.
Found metal objects make up Dean Patman’s wildlife sculptures. Whilst conscious art collecting is on the rise, it’s such a great time to get to know these artists working in mediums that don’t negatively impact the planet, with clean practices and the inspiring use of otherwise discarded materials. Explore Patman’s menagerie at Cameron Contemporary Art’s stand (D21) up the central aisle.
Local artist Rachel Goldsmith learns from nature in order to best celebrate it. Using a biodegradable plastic alternative, her work can be defined as an innovate style of “painting”, where shapes, color and lines evoke the joy and restoration of being amongst nature.
At InSight Artspace’s stand (E12) you’ll find Carole Jury’s work, including this tapestry from her B.K.King series; an in-depth exploration of the Wheel of Life. Steeped in optimism and expression, they offer the impression of life’s wheels constantly turning and moving towards a better place.
Mahchen is a Korean born artist who plays with color and imagery to depict freedom, maturity, and themes of modern life. Look closely at his works, presented by Mookji Contemporary (A2) at the top of the stairs, and you’ll find nonsensical scribblings and cartoon faces etched into an ombre palette.
Nature’s inspiration is clear, and through this appreciation demonstrates the artist’s deep connection to making art that promotes a sustainable future where protecting nature is the priority.
Remain on Level 1 for your final stop with LYNN Fine Art Gallery (A16). Here, you’ll be able to discover the quirky and fanciful ceramic creations of SOO ZI. Reminiscent of 00s “build you own” toys, these satisfying minis are full of childlike delight whilst remaining sophisticated and beautiful, making this a feel-good finalé to end the Conscientious Collector route
