With preparations in full swing for Affordable Art Fair Hampstead, it’s time to meet the passionate team working hard behind the scenes and discover their top picks ahead of the fair!
Our team has been busy hand-picking their must-see artists and galleries amongst the thousands of contemporary artworks on offer, from beautiful oil paintings, to stunning installations, and beyond. Read on to discover the standout pieces they can’t wait to see…
Jennifer joined the Affordable Art Fair as UK Regional Managing Director in March 2018. Her previous experience includes ten years with Sotheby’s auction house as Head of European Marketing, and five years as Managing Director of Lisson Gallery. Jennifer originally moved here from the States in 1997 and made her first purchase from the Affordable Art Fair at its inaugural edition (and is now friends with the artist!).
Jennifer’s pick: Jonathan Lawes, Air Contemporary
“I’m really looking forward to seeing the work of Jonathan Lawes, who is represented by Air Contemporary. I love all of this gallery’s artists, but I am always partial to bold abstracts – and Jonathan is a master within this category. He creates works with a distinctly graphic edge and has a keen eye for nuance and layering; all while paying close attention to colour and detail. Stunning.”
Hugo joined Affordable Art Fair in spring 2022 as the Fair Director for the UK. His previous experience includes being the Programme Manager for The London Art Fair, leading the DACH partnerships team at Artsy and Founder of an independent art advisory ArtThou. Hugo brings a wealth of knowledge on programming and the international gallery ecosystem to the Hampstead and Battersea Fairs.
Hugo’s pick: Stephanie Tuckwell, Flying Colours Gallery
“I’ve been a fan of Stephanie’s watercolours for a long time. Her work draws deeply from her experiences and memories of the natural world. Her art, characterised by its intuitive use of materials and exploration of themes like impermanence and transformation, creates a unique dialogue between abstraction and figuration, making her pieces both evocative and thought-provoking. ”
Carla has been carefully carving out a career in Event Management since 2007. Joining us in early 2015, she has bestowed her wealth of experience upon our UK fairs ever since! Outside of work, Carla’s spare time is filled with running around after her three gorgeous boys!
Carla’s pick: Claire Knill, Lara Bowen Contemporary
“I think I need to choose Claire Knill. Last year, I was captivated by Claire’s mobiles beautifully displayed at Lara Bowen Contemporary’s stand. Over the past few months, it has been fun to discuss with Claire her visions and ideas for the large-scale mobiles which will be hung in this year’s atrium and above our central bar. I love the colours and shapes Claire uses, and I can’t wait to see the pieces come to life in a few weeks!”
Ana brings a wealth of experience to Affordable Art Fair, having recently returned to London after a sabbatical in Toronto. An arts and events professional, she has a strong background in managing large-scale international art fairs and exhibitions, with previous roles including working at galleries and, most recently, as Exhibitor Relations Manager at Frieze Art Fair. Outside of work, Ana enjoys karate, reading, and watching baseball!
Ana’s pick: David Price, King & McGaw
“I am looking forward to seeing David Price’s Paper Flowers presented by first-time exhibitors King & McGaw. The works are bright, textured and unapologetically bold, but they somehow maintain the solemn nature of still lives. I would love to see them alongside Clara Peeters, and I am most certainly taking one home!”
Bex joined the team in March 2024 from the art and museum charity sector. An experienced arts marketer, she’s keen to put her interest in marketing and brand development to good use at the fairs, and is passionate about making art as accessible to as many people as possible. Outside of work you can find her stomping through muddy fields or experimenting with cooking.
Bex’s pick: Lucy Mckie, Lime Tree Gallery
“I’m looking forward to seeing Lucy Mckie’s, stunning still lifes, including Golden Pear with Cobalt Bottle. Represented by Lime Tree Gallery, Lucy’s paintings are the kind that seem simple at first look, but the more you take it in the more you see little details and shapes. I just think the fine paintwork is beautiful.”
Maura joined Affordable Art Fair in 2018 after completing her Masters in Modern and Contemporary Art at Christie’s. She is a keen art collector and has acquired numerous pieces from the fairs including a large-scale painting ‘The Wolf is Dead’ by Jess Quinn which reinterprets iconography from fairy tales with a surreal twist. When not immersed in the art world, Maura indulges her other passion, the world of wine, and has recently completed the WSET level 3 course.
Maura’s pick: Sophie Crockett, artdog london
“I am most looking forward to seeing the work of Sophie Crockett who is represented by seasoned Affordable Art Fair exhibitor Artdog London. I love art that has a narrative element and Sophie’s work is woven with evocative storytelling and magical realism. Symbols from myth, legend and folklore run through her practice to create scenes that manage to blend the ethereal with elements of traditional rural life of the past.”
Katie joined the Affordable Art Fair in October 2022. With a background in art history and experience in galleries and agencies, she brings a passion for art and storytelling, working to make art more accessible to all.
Katie’s pick: Lizzie Wheeler, Iona House Gallery
“I’m really looking forward to seeing work by British printmaker, Lizzie Wheeler. Raised in a family of craftspeople – potters, painters, printmakers – she’s always had a love for handmade processes. Lizzie mainly works with linocut and woodcut to create figurative images that celebrate the beauty of nature. She captures those little moments of wonder and turns them into beautiful compositions. Her pieces are really affordable, too!”
Tatiana joined the team in February 2024. She is an artist herself and holds a BA in Fashion Design from Leeds University. With a passion for the History of Art, Tatiana has worked with both large and small fashion designers, contributing to their design and marketing teams. She’s delighted to be surrounded by beautiful artworks that inspire her every day.
Tatiana’s pick: Tess Choden, OWL
“I can’t wait to dive into Tess Choden’s new works at Hampstead. I’ve always been a huge fan of her art – she has such a gift for breathing new life into old treasures. She truly creates magic! Tess sources antique entomology collections of butterflies, moths, and beetles, which she carefully restores to create unique artworks, marrying these delicate insects with antique portraits, books, and found objects.”
Yasmin graduated from Norwich University of the Arts with a degree in Fine Art in 2023. Having worked on-site as a Fair Assistant at three fairs, Yasmin became Fair Coordinator in August 2024. She’s looking forward to bringing her experiences and passion for the art world to the role. “As an artist myself, I am excited to be part of a team that is dedicated to making art more accessible and affordable to all.”
Yasmine’s pick: Pigment Gallery and Narrative Gallery
“For this edition of the Hampstead Affordable Art Fair, while there are many beautiful galleries to explore, I am excited to see Pigment Gallery from Barcelona. I love their selection of artists, and can’t wait to see how they curate their stand. Additionally, I’m looking forward to seeing the works of Fernando Guerra from Narrative Gallery. His photography exudes a sense of warmth that’s enchanting!”
Shehrezad joined the Affordable Art Fair as a Marketing Intern in January 2025. With a background in English Literature, she’s worked with community-focused cultural organisations like The Mosaic Rooms and MayDay Rooms, exploring underrepresented histories through narrative and archival research. She’s passionate about connecting art with diverse communities and making it more accessible to all.
Shez’s pick: Anrad Gallery
I’m most looking forward to seeing Anrad Gallery and their breathtaking collection, Sacred Groves. The gallery is a platform for India’s indigenous artists, many of whom work with natural materials/tools like local flowers, stones and tree gum – practices that have been passed down through generations.
I’m especially excited to see the work of Jyoti Karn, a Madhubani artist whose piece Kadam Tree is both visually intricate and spiritually resonant, a vibrant celebration of nature as sacred and a beautiful reminder of the healing power found in our connection to the land.
