How to start your own collection at our Berlin fair
Learn tips and tricks to buying art at our Berlin fair in this step-by-step guide on how to start your own art collection.

We understand that stepping into the art-buying arena can be thrilling and even a little overwhelming. But don’t worry, we’re here to guide you through your journey of discovering and buying art at Affordable Art Fair Berlin and to help you to start your own collection. Here are 10 tips how to buy art at our Berlin fair this 16 – 19 April.
Before the fair
1. Uncover your personal taste
Before your fair visit, we recommend taking a moment to reflect on your personal taste. At Affordable Art Fair Berlin, you’ll find 1,000s of artworks with a range of styles and genres to suit every taste, space and spend. To help narrow your hunt, consider exploring our participating Berlin Galleries 2026 in advance to get a sneak peek at the distinct offerings and identify the artists that resonate with you and plan which galleries you don’t want to miss.

2. Set your budget
Buying art doesn’t have to break the bank: One of the unique features of Affordable Art Fair Berlin is the wide range of prices, with all artworks priced between €100 and €10,000. All artworks you see at the fair are for sale and clearly priced. If you’re on the hunt for something under €500 or under €1,000, we have pink stickers to help you spot those gems from afar.

3. Re-check your home
Before you go to the fair, re-check your home: How much free space do you have at home for artworks and where would you prefer to hang a new piece? To be sure about the position beforehand can help to make the decision what to buy easier at the fair.

4. Do your research
We always recommend getting to know galleries and artists ahead of your visit, keep up to date with our emails and social media, so you can get to know the range of styles and mediums available. If you fall for an artwork that is out of your price range, don’t be afraid to ask our helpful galleries if they have a smaller size available from that artist. You might just get to snap up a piece before it’s even hung up on the wall!

During the fair
5. Visit the gallery
Make up your way through the fair and visit the different gallery booths. See what your favourite galleries present this time and watch out for new ones. They all have a lot to offer. Take your time and look carefully – sometimes the best surprise is hidden behind one of the gallery walls.

6. Talk to the gallerists
Don’t be shy! The gallerists are there to talk to you and are happy to answer all of your questions. If you have spotted a certain artwork you would like to know more about, ask about the storytelling behind it: What is its specific technique and who is the artist?

7. Have a great day at the fair
Enjoy the thrilling atmosphere at our fair – there’s lots to explore! Alongside our 65 galleries offering a wide range of artworks there will be an exiting program with an Emerging Artists Section, an Entrance Installation, Guided Tours, Artists Talks and much more. Join us for our Late View or have a coffee with us on the weekend and bring your friends and family.

The buying
8. Fell in love?
You’ve decided on an artwork you absolutely love? Then don’t waste time and tell the respective gallerist about it! They will set up everything with you and provide you with your new treasure as well as with the authentication certificate.

9. Take your artwork home straight away!
Each of our fairs have complimentary art wrapping onsite, so that you can take your new artworks home that day ready to hang. If you would prefer to have your purchase shipped, do speak to our wrapping-partner Wall to Wall – Art Solutions, who as well provides deliveries.

10. Having Commitment Issues?
If you feel you need longer to think about a potential purchase, don’t worry! Just keep in touch with the galleries after the fair and sign up to our newsletters. We’ll keep you updated and the galleries will be happy to hear from you.
