Get to know the names that everyone is talking about on the run up to Affordable Art Fair NYC Spring 2023. Discover five highlight artists and learn all about their extraordinary work.
In the run up to another exciting edition of Affordable Art Fair NYC Spring, Fair Director and all-round art expert, Erin Schuppert, introduces us to five artists that represent the best of the extraordinary contemporary art offerings you’ll find at the fair. Explore her picks, note the names, and make sure you don’t miss the opportunity too see their works in the flesh this March 22-26.
We’ll see you there!
Santamarina’s work is comprised of upcycled wooden rods found across the farmlands of Argentina, from La Pampa to Patagonia. Placing each organic component carefully like a puzzle, the artist’s process tells stories of time and travel. The idea that her materials have witnessed generations and countless family stories before their journey to becoming a sculptural piece is both inspiring and gives her work a sought-after longevity. Spring 2023 will be Santamarina’s debut at AAF!
Kean’s work is focused on balance and escapism. His transition from aerosol to acrylic paints has produced rich, atmospheric color gradients that always impress at our fair. Like glimpsing a surreal, endless horizon through a window, his paintings feel both expansive and contained. Up close, you’ll barely be able to believe the intensity of color in his work. A must-see artist, for sure.
Svoboda’s process is connected to nature from beginning to end. She even soaks her paper in the water of Lake Michigan. The organic, geographical forms reflect the process, in which the artist allows the ink to flow freely and find the path of least resistance. We can’t wait to welcome Allison to her first appearance at an Affordable Art Fair.
Siemens intricately layers colorful yarn in architectural forms to create playful and eye-catching works. Having worked with many different and uncommon materials previously, the artist began prioritizing cotton yarn due to the possibilities it presents in both 2- and 3-dimensions. I’m so glad to see the return of Siemens this Spring and to catch up with what he’s been working on since our Fall edition.
Casseus delivers clean, precise lines and rich, saturated colors in his gouache and ink pop-inspired works. His experience as an illustrator leads to clever pieces with deceptively simple design aesthetics, but his process and approach is carefully considered and methodical. His mission to inspire future illustrators leads to an abundance of his clever, pop art aesthetic for us to enjoy.
It’s so exciting to get a first look at what to expect for Affordable Art Fair NYC Spring 2023. You’ll find us at the Metropolitan Pavilion from March 22-26. Top tip: it pays to be organised. Tickets purchased in advance will be cheaper than on the door!
