We're hugely excited to announce that we've joined forces with another staple in the Bristolian calendar - the Simplyhealth Great Bristol Half Marathon - to create a bespoke design for the race finisher t-shirts, to be worn by over 10,000 runners taking part in the race on Sunday 17 September.
For the first time, an artist has been asked to design a t-shirt for the iconic Bristol race and luckily, local fair artist Alex Lucas of Clifton Fine Art was able to draw on her own experience, having run the half marathon twice herself (in full fancy dress!).
Alex’s quirky and distinctive designs are an unmissable fixture on the Bristol landscape; she has painted several murals which can be seen across the city, including a larger than life plesiosaur on Park Row, animals riding bikes for the Bristol Bike Project and a boxing hare on Stokes Croft to name just a few. Not to mention her artwork has been brightening the aisles of Affordable Art Fairs in both London and Bristol since 2016.
Instantly recognisable as Alex's typically bright and bold style, the motif features a cartoon bear taking part in the race victoriously leaping over the Clifton Suspension Bridge, inspired by Bristol’s own Bear Pit and reflective of the hard work and triumph of all of those who will be taking part in the race itself.
Drum roll please, as we reveal the artwork that will feature on the front of the t-shirt everyone is going to want to get their hands on this summer...
Runners and spectators alike will have the chance to decorate their homes with the original t-shirt design, alongside a wider selection of Alex's sought after artworks, as Bristol-based Clifton Fine Art will be selling a limited edition run of 50 prints at £75 each, which Alex will be on hand to personalise with a race number or message at the upcoming fair. A portion of the profits from the limited run will be going to the fair’s charity partner Studio Upstairs, with whom Alex has previously worked as an art therapist.
So whether you're a slow and steady collector or a fast and furious first time buyer, join us at the Bristol fair in Temple Meads from 8 – 10 September to browse and buy from a huge variety of original, contemporary art.
