For Juan Escudero, the basic idea for drawing is not to represent something but to activate a process. His art applies a system in which a first line prefigures the backline and if an irregularity occurs, it’s transmitted to the next line. He refers to similar processes in nature, so that these a posteriori drawings connect with familiar patterns and shapes such as surfaces, tissues, fluids, orography and waves.
Darko C. Nikolic is known for his constructivist arrangements of color and form. What’s special about his practice is the continuous cycle of research and composition, which uncovers new interactions of forms and colors that are then incorporated into new works. He considers the interplay in the emotional perception of color and the logical perception of form of the viewers as an essential element of his art.
Emilie Cognard works with ink, water and paper, using these simple means to create highly complex drawings of marked depth. With her works she questions emptiness; even more so she questions our homogenised outlook on the world. The results are exceptionally fine compositions that are highly concentrated, flowing, amorphous, highly dynamic and yet almost contemplative.
Nico Sawatzki creates abstract pictorial spaces that generate a special depth effect through high-contrast lighting moods. By superimposing a multitude of layers of spray paint and acrylic glazes, the landscapes seem reduced to their essentials and oscillate between condensation and dissolution. They can concentrate and evaporate, but never stand still, do not have a clear form nor being fixed in a specific place.
Christoph Rode is known for his fictional stage installations shown on large-format oil paintings. His multidimensional works are a combination of abstract and realism, absolutely fictional and full of fragmented content. In the collage-like paintings all parts are arranged well thought out. The scenarios are left open consciously to give the viewer a wide freedom for their own interpretation.
