Aboriginal Art Co was founded in July 2019 as a not-for-profit organisation. In an industry flooded with fake and inauthentic Aboriginal art and souvenirs, artists and communities have long been deprived of the rewards of their hard work. Recognising this injustice, we’ve taken a stand to make a positive change. At Aboriginal Art Co, we provide a platform for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to reclaim agency over their art and culture. Simultaneously, we offer consumers a transparent and ethical choice in their purchasing decisions. It’s a win-win situation for everyone involved. As creators ourselves, we understand the importance of Indigenous artists and makers controlling the dissemination of their art, products, and culture. That’s why we’ve developed pathways and platforms to empower them to do so. It’s about self-determination in trade, narrative control, and the conscious sharing of 60,000 years of culture and history.
