About Fiona Smith

About the artwork

Concrete Bird, original painting by Fiona Smith, acrylic on board, 30.5 x 25.5 cm. Still Life Art, Ceramic Art, Contemporary Art.

This painting is sold framed, in a white frame, size of framed work is 38 x 32.5 cm. Fiona comments “My background is in teaching and, briefly, millinery, but I had always enjoyed drawing and started painting a few years ago. My mother-in-law gave me this beautiful bird and it stood for years in the middle of our garden table where I could see it from the kitchen window. When we moved house I was delighted to find a perfect home for it in a little nook next to the fireplace but I could no longer see it all the time so I started sketching and painting it, in order to reconnect with it. I built up the colour in multiple layers of paint, applying the paint quite thinly and then wiped away most of each layer until only a trace of colour remained.”
