After a hugely successful first edition in May 2024, Affordable Art Fair will be returning to Brisbane in 2025! Join us in May at the Brisbane Showgrounds Exhibition Building in Bowen Hills. With an exciting art scene in Brisbane and beyond, the fair will be showcasing galleries from Queensland and across Australia with a mixture of emerging and established artists. Nikita Fitzpatrick-Newly’s cultural background is a rich tapestry of heritage, including Aboriginal Australian, Torres Strait Islander, and South Sea Islander bloodlines, along with connections to the UK and European cultures. This diverse ancestry deeply informs her identity as both an artist and a facilitator, allowing her to embrace and celebrate the unique blend of traditions, histories, and perspectives that shape her work. Proud of her heritage, Nikita weaves these cultural influences into her mixed-media artwork, creating spaces for connection, understanding, and dialogue that honor her roots while embracing the evolving nature of identity and creativity.

SPOTLIGHT ON FIRST NATIONS ART | FAIR MURALS
Lauren Rogers is a First Nations artist with bloodlines to Ngarabul and the Torres Strait Islands, based in Meanjin (Brisbane), whose work is deeply connected to Country, kinship, and cultural storytelling. With a background in visual arts and design, Lauren’s practice explores themes of environmental stewardship, identity, and the interwoven narratives of land, water, and people. Her work spans fine art, textiles, and large-scale public installations, often incorporating traditional and contemporary techniques to reflect the ongoing dialogue between heritage and innovation.
Lauren will be creating a brand-new fair mural `Flourish:Stories of Meanjin` as a tribute to the rich stories and enduring beauty of Country. This one-of-a-kind hand painted mural brings to life the native flowers and foliage that thrive in this place, honouring the land, waters, and the custodians who have cared for it for millennia. SPOTLIGHT ON FIRST NATIONS ART
Chloe Watego is a Iman & South Sea Islander woman residing on Gubbi Gubbi Country with a passion for sharing and celebrating her culture through art.
Born and raised on Yugambeh land, Chloe is of South Sea Islander descent and through her grandmother has ties to Torres Strait Island and the Bundjalung nation. Her grandfather was forcibly removed from family due the Stolen Generations, causing a hurtful disconnection to heritage and culture for him and the following generations of his family.
It was while on this journey to identify her grandfather’s country, tribe and language that Chloe first started painting.
Chloe’s artworks are a means to shine a light on her family’s enduring ties to the land while also illuminating the path forward for her children and future generations of her family.

Did you know that while you’re exploring your creativity at the fair, majestic whales are making their great migration along Australia’s coastline? Every year, these gentle giants travel thousands of kilometres, just as our fairs arrive in Brisbane and Sydney! This year’s studio has been imagined by local Brisbane artist and children’s author Tenyka Jay, and is supported by Brisbane City Council and Resene.

🦆 Plucka Duck is an interactive, classic arcade machine filled with rubber ducks. As a metaphor for human impact on ecosystems, each $2 donation to take a spin at this one-of-a-kind art installation will support the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital.
