Emma Bell graduated in ceramics at the University College of Ripon & York St John in 1993. After dedicating her full time to raise her four children for a few years, she returned to the studio. She is a wheel-based potter, working mainly in stoneware and porcelain, using soft, matt glazes with minimal decoration. Her recent works are defined by simplicity and purity of form, delivering a sense of quietness and calm. The search is for symmetry and balance in design, in a contrast between the desired shape of the piece and the fineness and fragility of the clay.
