About Dylan Lloyd

About the artwork

Dorset Garden X – a contemporary realism artwork by Dylan Lloyd. A 100cm x 80cm oil painting on canvas, sold unframed but ready to hang. Signed on reverse. “The Dorset summer garden paintings are a response partly to my emerging garden on the Isle of Portland planted a year ago and elements of gardens I have visited this year. They are not topographical responses but contain plant combinations that create depth and contrasts in softness, tone and colour. The space that the change in focus creates is important, giving a feeling of both looking out onto a garden as well as suggesting the view through a camera lens and a desire to record a memory. The balance between a suggestion of a photographic image and the painterly surface allows the work to be seen in two contrasting ways but importantly they are paintings and the ‘painterly’ brush marked surface confirms this.
