"For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils." " />

About Jitka Palmer

About the artwork

In the artist's own words:
"I pinch and coil large earthenware vessels and treat them as my canvases. I use slips in very painterly way, building layers of colours with slips, oxides and stains. I am trying to create tension between the outside and inside surface in order to give each piece another dimension." This piece is inspired by the final stanza of the Wordsworth poem 'I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud':
"For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils."
