About Dan Parry-Jones

About the artwork

In this mixed-media painting (acrylic, oil and screen-print on board), a girl and boy are sitting on the edge of a swimming pool with a stripy wall, three palm trees and mountain range in the background. Dan Parry-Jones works from his own photographs to make the screen-printed elements (in this case, the figures, trees, mountains and grid pattern in the pool). This painting bears his stylistic hallmarks that draw influence from Richard Diebenkorn and Robert Rauschenberg: shapes of flat colour set against highly textured areas where paint and glued paper (fragments of typography or colour that complement and contrast with the painted areas) have been scraped and scratched to reveal layers beneath. The artist's application of paint using a palette knife creates a heavily textured surface. The painting is framed in a 2 cm wide white wooden frame and is ready to hang.
