Zhou Zhouzhou was born in Hebei Province, China and graduated from China Central Academy of Arts and Design. During his years of work in Beijing, Zhou focused on the academic study of Chinese ink and wash painting and became one of the leading figures in this field because of his bold attempts to innovate traditional painting techniques as well as his creative efforts to combine Chinese painting theories with those of Western art.
Zhou firmly believes that beauty in artistic conception lies at the core of beauty in form. Characterised by an elegant painting style and novel painting composition, Zhou’s works emanate a sense of simplicity and freedom. Vivid and carefully composed, they are a testament to the care put into their production and present the beauty of natural scenery to the full. Zhou posits that the viewer of his works should feel at ease physically and mentally, totally immersed in calm and tranquillity due to the Buddhist nature of the paintings.
Zhou's work is collected by many arts organisations both within his native China and internationally. In 2014, his work 'China’s Lover' was selected for and exhibited at the Chinese National Fine Arts Exhibition.
