Wai Wai, born in Hong Kong, is a local illustrator and silhouette artist. Wai Wai holds a Bachelor Degree of Arts (Hons) in Creative Media from City University, majoring in film study. In 2016, she studied water-based woodblock printmaking (Mokuhanga) and the Etegami technique (Japanese Folk Art painting) in MI-Lab, Lake Kawaguchi, Japan. Wai Wai paints illustrations of local vintage shops to bring people closer in their communities. Portrait drawing is her favourite subject, and by conveying the idea of diligence and dedication in work, through her drawings, it makes her feel fulfilled all the time. Wai Wai’s "A Love Letter to Yau Ma Tei" is her first solo album dedicating her love for Yau Ma Tei, as she was brought up in the area! The artist collaborates with individual associations to make illustrations, shutter painting, mural painting and hand cut silhouette projects all along the years, including Eslite Spectrum, Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, Urban Renewal Authority, Kee Wah Bakery, Diptyque, Hong Kong Global Geopark, The Hong Kong Institute of Housing, St. James' Settlement, The Cityview, Tung Nam Lou Hotel, etc. • In June 2020, the mural painting done by Wai Wai at 618 Shanghai Street, Mongkok, was shortlisted in the 2020 World Illustration Awards. • In 2017, she travelled to Heilongjiang Province, China, collaborated with RTHK and host a cultural programme “Wind Takers” featuring Heilongjiang’s folk art--fish skin painting.
