Todd Garner was born in the town of Pasadena, California. He has been living and working in Scotland since 1989, when he was invited by Edinburgh College of Art for an Artist-in-Residence.
Todd's work has been described as retro romantic realism, looking back to a 30's American detective novel, however, that doesn’t do justice to his remarkable attention to detail in representing Art Deco style which pervade his work. His acrylic paintings follow the tradition of Edward Hopper; Todd's work continues the tradition of the atmospheric quality of Hopper's portrayal of interiors and characters.
Artist statement: "My paintings reflect a nostalgia for my Southern California hometown while incorporating subtle contemporary cultural anachronisms and recognisable societal narratives".
