Tim Nikiforuk was born in 1975 in Canada, he received his BFA from the University of Calgary in 1999, and his MFA from the University of Connecticut in 2001. He currently lives and works in San Diego, California.
Tim's work can be collocated between painting and sculpture and is known for its richly textured, vividly coloured applications of gel and oils over layers such as vinyl and panel.
His latest Mythos series is influenced by the theatrical drama and energy of Greco‐Roman mythology, apparent in titles such as "Poseidon", "Medusa" and “The Birth of Gaea”. The influence of artists such as Robert Ryman and Jason Martin reflect his concern for a practice rooted in process-based abstraction.
Artist's statement: “My strongest work is that which is anchored in composition,” the artist reflects. “I have a deep concern for the fluidity and movement of the marks I make, each one must work in harmony with its neighbour.”
