Sue Godfrey studied at Croydon College of Art and, prior to painting, pursued a career in graphic design. It took a period of travel through the inspiring landscapes of Australia and South Africa to rekindle her love of painting. She is inspired by the 'solitude and isolation of remote and extreme landscapes' and aims in her work to capture a feeling of calmness and tranquility.
"In my art I like to capture a sense of fantasy, a mysterious place where water touches land. My paintings are completely from imagination and I try with every finished work to create a scene where colours and shapes can mean so many different things. The challenge that I always set myself is to create an atmospheric painting which changes several times during the process of creation. I work with acrylic paint on canvas, creating textures as the layers are applied."
She works from her studio in Oxfordshire.
