Stephen Kenny first fell for letterpress when he came across a collection of Victorian posters in the book of a retired printer in 2002. A few years later, he has a wood type collection, a studio of his own and works full time as a letterpress designer and printer.
Working within a longstanding tradition and with old machines, he is continuously reminded of the medium’s history. Wood type that is damaged and worn takes on a life of its own, every mark, and scratch makes each block and print entirely unique.
Stephen continues to take inspiration from Victorian posters, the French Surrealists of the 1920s and contemporary music and literature. He has worked on various book covers, record covers and branding jobs at the same time as producing his own posters. He has also exhibited across London and Japan.
