Biography

Sir Peter Blake (b. 1932) is a renowned British painter, sculptor and printmaker. He studied at Gravesend School of Art before the Royal College of Art. After graduating in 1956, Blake began referencing popular culture in his work, establishing himself as a leading British Pop artist. His sleeve design for The Beatles’ Sergeant Pepper album (1967) is a world-famous icon, an aspect of his strong links with British bands from The Who to Oasis. Blake was elected to the Royal Academy of Arts in 1981 and was knighted in 2002. His work is featured in collections around the globe from the Museum of Modern Art in New York to the Tate, London, UK.
