Sarah Boulton

United Kingdom

Sarah’s work reflects her love of pattern and texture and the way she sees, feels and experiences the world around her. Her home in the bushland of Central Victoria has had a powerful influence. She has painted since childhood. Her mother, also a painter, encouraged her to lead a creative life and she went on to study fine art at RMIT in Melbourne. She creates using ink and acrylics, building rich layers of texture, with metallic paint, gold leaf and spray paint adding depth and contrast. Every mark has meaning. The creative process is part of her daily life, whether she is in front of a canvas in her studio, walking in the bush with her dogs or watching the colours of the landscape change with the weather. Her work develops organically, sometimes she has an idea before she starts, but generally she likes to work in a less restricted way and let a piece flow naturally Sarah likes her paintings to be beautiful, for people to find beauty in them and for them to elicit a personal, emotional response. The fact that this response may be different to the feelings she has had creating the work excites her. It’s one of the joys of the abstract form, when a painting can take a viewer on a journey entirely their own.
