Ryan Gauge is a ceramic artist who uses his creativity as social and political commentary. His body of works ‘Cultural Capitals’ centres on the growing aggressive correlation between youth culture and branded identities.
The focus for ‘Cultural Capitals’ has been the underground youth scenes of online street wear forums, including brands such as Supreme and Nike. The work began as an introspective realisation about how the modern wave of youth has become fully devoted in their idolisation of brand as cultural/artistic ambassadors. Gauge’s work stands as his artistic approach to documenting and commenting on this very modern cultural identity crisis.
Ryan Gauge graduated from the Manchester School of Art in Three Dimensional Design, in 2017. He is now based in Stoke and has been involved with the social enterprise SmallSteps that looks to gain awareness for important social issues through art, music, poetry, storytelling and informative talks.
