Pu Yu is a Chinese painter whose name translates as Simple Rain. In China, the main representation of the Divine is water and the angels are represented by clouds, therefore the rain is seen as a blessing from Heaven that naturally bestows equally and fairly on all people.
He was born in Guandong in 1960 and through the years he secured many several group and solo exhibitions in China and sold his artworks to private collections all around the world.
One of the prevalent themes in Pu Yu’s paintings is nature, as a reaction to his life happenings and the rapid Chinese Progress that changed his old village and forced him and his family to migrate to the City; in his opinion, this recent reform destroyed the cultural fibre of modern China. The artist’s choice of subject matter is also due to the importance he gives to the values of tolerance and communion of living beings.
