Nicky’s work is essentially optimistic, whether painting flowers or the landscape the emotions she aims to convey are hope and happiness. She is particularly inspired by the trees, big skies and heathland flowers of the countryside around her home. She tries to capture a sense of air and movement as she paints.
She originally trained as a fashion designer at Central St Martins in the early 90's. Her training continues to influence her practice where textiles can be seen in her use of colour, texture and pattern. Her other interest is in life drawing. All her figurative work is from life, in mixed media, either quick, gestural drawings or multi-layered collages when time allows.
