Based in the Cotswolds, and with a degree in Fine Art from Cheltenham, Mel spent many years teaching before summoning the courage to focus purely on painting. The work speaks for itself. She says: “I always loved art, that's what led me into teaching. I was on a mission to prove that everyone can enjoy art. So, with a Fine Art Painting Degree under my belt, that's what I did for 20 wonderful years. After so many years teaching in secondary school my itch to paint came back and I found my own creativity had grown.”
Melanie’s home studio is located only moments away from the woodlands she walks daily and paints within. A holiday base in Beer allows her to explore the diverse Jurassic coastline, where she can be found on the beach in all weathers, surrounded by paint splattered pebbles. Her creation of paintings en plein air offers opportunities for loose explorations of colour and mark making. Paintings started on location, often require only a few additional marks once back in the studio.
