Self taught, Matthew has been developing his way of looking since 2000 and the acquisition of a digital camera. Originally working with landscape, he began experimenting with light-painting and long exposure shots. Whilst searching for isolation without any light pollution for these photographs, he discovered many abandoned places, and, drawn to their beauty and solitude, allowed them to become his subject in their own right.
He has always felt able to sense the stories behind places and tries to capture these in his work, whether it be that of a beautiful church being reclaimed by nature, a house full of decay and history, or a factory full of machines that are now silent.
Over the last five years he has travelled throughout Europe, from France to the Ukraine, as well as all over the UK, in search of his imagery.
