Margaret Devitt was born in South Africa and took her honours degree in Fine Arts at the University of the Witwatersrand, Upon graduating she and her husband moved to Lesotho where she started and ran a mohair weaving workshop and he was involved in rural development. They moved to London but spent many years working in remote parts of Africa and Asia where she painted landscapes and drew the people she met. In London she continued her training under Cecil Collins and later with Robin Child and spent several years at the London College of Printing. Her work encompasses landscape, figure, still life and abstract.
