Using everyday objects set up in traditional still life format as a starting point, Marcus Bolt first begins to draw, simplifying, paring down to what is essential, continually re-designing into the shape of the canvas. He then begins to paint, mostly avoiding conventional modelling or perspective, with the aim of creating a flat painting relating to the surface of the canvas, using line, inter-locking shapes and colour to eventually arrive at a harmoniously whole design.
Bolt studied Graphic Design at Maidstone College of Art (University of Kent) and worked as a designer and lecturer but always painting and drawing in his spare time. Now retired, he practises full-time.
