Louise Stebbing

Louise
Stebbing

Biography

Louise has been mesmerised by printmaking techniques since attending an Art Foundation Course in Cambridge taught by Walter Hoyle. She draws inspiration from her environment using the inherent qualities of printmaking techniques to capture the essence of her subjects.

It is the processes of printmaking that she loves, printmaking requires a lot of patience with elements of risk and surprise.  She has used a variety of printmaking techniques but recently her preferred printmaking medium is linocuts because it enables the artist to use vibrant colours. Her images usually start with a sketch, often whilst out cycling in the local landscape.

Back in her studio, she lets the print evolve as she creates it, using her experience to let the image develop on the lino block and to keep the energy of the image flowing in the direction it happens to take at that particular time.

"I believe that an original print should not be a reproduction of something else but should express the textures and qualities characteristic in the method used." Louise comments.

Louise specialised in Printmaking on her degree at Sheffield and Postgraduate Course in Camberwell, London. She has exhibited extensively and has won numerous prizes for her prints. Her work has been published in books, such as The Illustrated Garden, Norfolk Gems, and The Artist in Our Midst. She has participated to Sky Landscape Artist of the Year. She has exhibited at the Royal Academy summer exhibition, and her work is in Private collections worldwide, as well as the V&A. A member of The Printmakers Council, West Norfolk Artists Association; Core Team Member for the Cambridge Original Printmakers 2018.
