Pettibone

Biography

Lisa Pettibone obtained her MA, Art and Science at Central Saint Martins, London in 2018.

During her MA, Lisa examined the nature of gravity in both physics and neuroscience, developing a visual language related to this invisible but vital force. She took photos of the stunning landscape of Iceland, which became the backdrop for a series of paper sculpture which explore gravity and our relationship to the horizon. Originally coming from a background working in glass, Lisa enjoyed the materials stretchiness and movement. Glass, alongside plastic, fabric and paper allow her to express tension and energy flow, while also providing an unpredictable element allowing the work to make itself. She has enjoyed the transition into paper though, it has allowed her to include imagery in her sculpture and directly shape the two into the three dimensional form.

Her Awards and residencies include: Mullard Space Science Laboratory (UCL) ACE funded Artist in Residence,2018; UAL Artists in the Environment Residency, Domaine de Boisbuchet, France, 2018; National Open Art Prize Installation Category, 2017; ING Discerning Eye, longlisted, 2015; Aesthetica Art Prize, longlisted, 2013
