Le Thanh Son was born in 1962 in Hanoi, Vietnam. He graduated from Hanoi’s College of Drama and Cinematography in 1986 and is a full time artist and a member of the Vietnam Fine Art Association.
Son paints in oil on canvas. Using large brush strokes, he applies thick layers of paint directly to the canvas in a bold, liberal and daring yet emotional style. It is said that Son pioneered the creation of an impressionist trend in modern Vietnam. He therefore has a great influence on a younger generation of Vietnamese artists and has certainly made his mark on the artist community.
Le Thanh Son’s love for nature is reflected in his works. He sees the charm and lyricism in every scene, whether it is a picture of a village, a corner of a duckweed pond, a plain pagoda gate, a field of flowers or a street in old Hanoi in the shade of verdant trees beaming with sunlight. He is particularly inspired by Mother Nature’s marvelous change of colours through four seasons.
Throughout decades dedicating his life to painting, Son has established great personal achievements such as the obtainment of several fine arts awards and solo exhibitions in Vietnam and internationally. Son’s paintings are displayed in several museums and private collections across the world and enjoy attention and respect in artistic circles.
